NetView uses a hostlist file which stores all the users from the network. Regularly rechecking hosts by port connect or pinging. Opening both by IP or hostname.

Useful when WINS server in your network is unpresent or down. Built-in netsearcher, IP/port scanner, netwatcher, port listener (works only on NT based systems), terminal, trace route can create network map automatically. Can show hostlist as simple list or as visual map with images, texture, lines, and areas. Has plug-ins, scripting, API.
